Therapy Knitters Potluck brought together a gathering of knitters from various Needles & Knits knitting classes and workshops! Students brought mouth watering appetizers, main dishes and deserts! There was a sharing of recipes, laughs, opinions and of course, their finished work or work in progress.
We are looking forward to another year of learning something new in the classes offered with another potluck in the spring :)
December is the month of celebrations and gatherings of family and friends. On Thursday December 15, the Thursday night, Tea with Tove group braved the winter snow storm to attend the annual Holiday Dinner...and of course, to knit!
From Needles & Knits, we wish all Happy Holidays and the very best in the New Year!
On November 24, Needles & Knits Wool Shop in Aurora, opened their doors to new and long standing customers to help celebrate the holiday season! The Holiday Open House was a great success, with lots of laughs, good food, drinks and many happy door prize winners!
Christmas is fast approaching and we all are looking for something different to serve our guests.
In Norway, juletid (Christmas time) is a celebration of traditions and family in Norway. Norwegians enjoy rich food and share julefryd (Christmas cheer) with friends and family. One of the Norwegian traditions is to serve salmon on Christmas Eve. Why not try this plank salmon that Tove makes for Christmas Eve for her family? Have a little bit of Norway in your Christmas!
Purchase your salmon filets (one large feeds about 6 people) and cedar planks (available at Home Depot, Canadian Tire – the planks that is).
REMEMBER to soak the planks in water for at least one hour, overnight is better (so they don’t catch fire on the BBQ).
Preheat grill to medium heat or may be cooked in preheated 400 F oven.
Season salmon with salt and pepper.
Lightly spray wooden plank with cooking spray if skin is removed.
Carefully place seasoned filets on soaked wooden plank.
Place plank in centre of grill, close lid and cook for 15 – 20 minutes.
May serve rosemary sprig directly on plank and cover with salmon.
May rub salmon with lemon, garlic and olive oil mixture.
May season salmon with Cajun fish seasoning.
May be cooked on grilling planks made from woods such as cedar, alder, maple or oak.
Tove just seasons her salmon with salt and pepper but feel free to try one of the serving suggestions listed above.
We at Needles and Knits would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their patronage and wish everyone a
Tina, Tove's daughter, visited with her family from Norway for the holidays. Tove has been "knitting up a hurricane" ( "knitting up a storm" just doesn't describe how fast she has been knitting) to get these Santa outfits for her grandchildren finished in time for Christmas. She knit the Santa suit for Sebastian, her first grandson born in October, 2013.
The Santa suit is knit in the 6 month size, and it fits him perfectly, so he is a big boy!!! Baby Christmas Santa Suit Pattern by Sirdar #1462 ; knit in DK weight yarn
Ella (Sebastian's older sister), is the cutest Santa helper in this A-line dress. Tove designed her own pattern for this dress, also knit in DK weight yarn.
Check out the photo gallery below, for the complete Santa Baby ensemble Pattern, yarn and buttons are from Needles & Knits
From the Needles & Knit staff, we wish you warmest wishes for a joyous holiday season and a Happy New Year!
